Midwest Food Bank Morton hosted the first ever "Feed the 5,000" event in November 2017. Three Morton churches, Bethel Lutheran, Blessed Sacrament and Grace Church, participated by sponsoring the cost of a pallet of Tender Mercies. Volunteers from each church worked together to pack their pallet, too.
A pallet of Tender Mercies feeds 5,280 people at a cost of $726. Each church had the option of directing their pallet to an agency served by Midwest Food Bank. Mt. Olive Care Center was a recipient of the pallet sponsored and packed by Grace Church. About 300 people receive food each month from this pantry, located in Macoupin County.
"To have Tender Mercies donated means we always have a staple," Nancy Hubert, Director of Mt. Olive Care Center, said.
"Wow, I don't even have words to describe this donation."
Midwest Food Bank, Morton location, will host more "Feed the 5,000" events in 2018. If your church is interested in participating please call 309.291.0900 or email Gail Thorson, Tender Mercies Coordinator, at
