January Distribution 2014 was a huge success despite the bitter cold and a slick beginning to Tuesday morning. Over 200 volunteers came during the 4 days to help share the blessings and 202 partner agencies were here to collect the food and supplies that were given freely.
The Dream Center Peoria has been a pantry partner for a long time and they are such a blessing to the Peoria Community. Matt Larson, their Director of Programs shared a story with me about a great family whose need will not be ending any time soon. With the help of MFB, The Dream Center is able to get them extra food each month.
The family has been going to The Dream Center for a long time for after school programs. Mom and Dad have 4 children, all of whom love to play soccer. Last year, the father was injured at work which resulted in his employer cutting his hours. Money quickly became tight and the family humbly asked for help. Matt pointed out that there have been times over the winter when the Dream Center freezers were too full, so taking extra meat and frozen items to this family was a blessing to both parties involved! Toiletries have also been a great help. Before Christmas the kids were able to choose a few gifts for their parents and the parents were given toys for the kids in part because of donations from MFB. Regardless of the donation, they are always grateful!
Here at MFB we are very grateful for all of the wonderful organizations that we work with. Every one offers a unique service in their community that so many depend on, and we are thankful to be a part of that.
