Creativity and thoughtfulness can result in unexpected blessings for a non-profit organization. For example, Hello Fresh, the popular meal kit delivery business recently implemented an in-house recycling operation to benefit the people served by Midwest Food Bank.
The ingredients for Hello Fresh's meals are shipped in specially insulated boxes to keep the ingredients ... well, fresh. Hello Fresh customers have been returning the boxes for recycling purposes. While unable to use them for new mailings, Hello Fresh came up with an ingenious way to recycle the boxes.
Twice a month, Hello Fresh employees come to volunteer at Midwest Food Bank, bringing the recycled boxes. Frozen foods, produce and other perishable food items are packed in the boxes. These are then given to our partner agencies to distribute to those in need that they serve. Often the agencies would not have a means to transport or store these nutritious food offerings.
"So many people benefit from the generosity of Hello Fresh," says Q Nielson, Operations Manager for Midwest Food Bank Arizona. "Boxes are recycled, MFB can give the perishables away, agencies are able to take it, and those in need receive nutritious food."
Thank you Hello Fresh employees for creatively offering your time and resources.
