The month of May has been one of change and expansion here at Midwest Food Bank (MFB). Load out week was a resounding success, in which Midwest served 19 new agencies, and added a Thursday load out to accommodate new nonprofit agency partners. Load out week allows us to connect with the agencies we serve, and is a time to feel the power of God at work in the Peachtree City community and beyond.
This load out, Midwest Food Bank served a total of 161 agencies. Over 200 volunteers rallied around agency representatives to help welcome them to Midwest, stock carts, load vehicles, and pray with them before their departure.
"Everyone was happy- everyone was enjoying what they were doing. Even if it was lifting cases of food or raising pallets- they were positive about their job. They're all so excited to be a part of this organization and it's so neat to see it all come together during load out," said Sarah Shupenus, a summer intern here at MFB.
On our Tuesday evening load out, volunteers of all ages could be found in the warehouse. Our youngest volunteer was just two years old, tottering down each walkway to help his dad and siblings load carts. At the same time, one of our strongest volunteers was loading agency vehicles at the age of 87. There is something for everyone at MFB, even in the load out environment!
Each prayer spoken, and each cart that was loaded made an impact on the lives of tens of thousands of individuals. Thank you to all of the volunteers that worked tirelessly in serving our nonprofit agency partners. And thank you to all of our agency partners that have joined us in the cause to help alleviate hunger.
This month, we gave away 27,000 cases of food and supplies! We are humbled to do the Lord's work, and look forward to another wonderful load out week for June.
The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food at the proper time. (Psalm 145: 14-15)If you are interested in volunteering at a load out week, check out our calendar, and come to the warehouse to join in fellowship while impacting our community.
