When Midwest Food Bank opens a new location, one of the first tasks is finding and equipping volunteers. When MFB Arizona was established in 2016, Linda Siggins was the person that took on that role. While she left MFB for a time, we are grateful she has returned as the Volunteer Coordinator this year.
"Linda has a warm smile and a heart for serving," says Merilee Baptiste, Executive Director for MFB Arizona. "Her love for Jesus is unmatched."
Her heart for people started with advocacy in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. She was a volunteer coordinator and director of a battered women's shelter in Texas.
When her husband's job took their family to Italy, she found a way to serve there, too, as the community liaison officer in Rome for the American Embassy.
Linda and her husband have two adult children and two grandchildren. Her daughter, Tanya, and her husband live in Arizona, volunteer at MFB, and have become foster parents.
"The special thing about this fostering situation is my daughter met this young teenage girl while volunteering on a Saturday morning," says Linda. "One of MFB's board members who fostered and adopted children, took Tanya under his wing and showed her the joy of advocating for children," says Linda.
This "chance" meeting at MFB also included this girl asking Tanya if Linda was the volunteer coordinator. "One week later, the position opened, and I knew God had called me back," says Linda.
