Pick up an empty box and bring it back full. This straightforward idea can provide thousands of meals to Arizona's needy families.
Midwest Food Bank is organizing this Holiday Meal Kit program with an ambitious goal of 2,500 meal kits. The Navajo Nation will receive 500; the remainder will be given to MFB partnering agencies.
"This is our third year focusing on providing a wonderful holiday meal to families in need across Arizona," says Brandon Letner, an advisory board member for MFB Arizona. "We believe that 'breaking bread' with one another is good for the mind, body, and soul. This program offers families facing food insecurity a chance to savor the holidays together."
Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Company has generously sponsored the event by providing the boxes. Anyone interested in filling a box can come to MFB to get an empty box. Here is a list of recommended items:
- Green beans - 2 cans
- Cream of Mushroom Soup - 1 can
- Crispy Fried Onions - 1 can
- Instant Mashed Potatoes - 1 box
- Stuffing Mix - 2 boxes
- Gravy Mix - 2 packets
- Rice - 1 pound bag
- Cranberry Sauce - 2 cans
- Pumpkin Pie Filling - 1 can
- Evaporated Milk - 2 cans
- Graham Cracker Crumbs - 1 box
To complete each meal kit, MFB will be purchasing a turkey or ham.
Please return the box to MFB by November 1 to allow time for distribution.
