"Kudos to our staff, volunteers, and advisory board members who have been moving pallets, clearing out rack spaces, and working with us to make these transitions," says Kathy Anderson-Martin, Executive Director of MFB Pennsylvania.
Here are some examples of facility improvements:
• Exterior freezer and refrigeration containers have been retrofitted and are now accessible from inside the warehouse. Custom-made roll-up doors were installed, and this improvement makes it possible to accept, store and distribute more refrigerated and frozen products.
• The warehouse is being reconfigured so more food partners can enter, shop, and retrieve their food safely and efficiently.
These projects were possible due to various grants, in-kind donations, and volunteer support.
"While not very glamorous or exciting, these projects enable Midwest Food Bank to rescue, warehouse, and distribute more food, free of charge, to our 200-plus list of nonprofit partners who are feeding people in need throughout Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey," says Kathy.
