Brandon Lipps has joined the Midwest Food Bank National Board of Directors. His vast experience in organizational leadership aligns with the mission of MFB.
Brandon grew up in the small town of Woodson, TX. He received a B.S. in agricultural economics and a law degree from Texas Tech University. His wide array of experience includes practicing law, trading cottonseed, working in higher education administration, and policymaking for the Texas Legislature and U.S. Congress. Most recently, Brandon served in the role of the Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Brandon is currently the co-founder of Caprock Strategies, a family company formed in 2021 with his wife, Hannah. The company focuses on agriculture, food, and poverty alleviation.
"We simply say that we build strategies for lasting change so that regular people can thrive," says Brandon.
Brandon visited the Bloomington/Normal site of MFB in October of 2020 when he was with the USDA. The USDA administers more than $100 billion per year for the nation's feeding and poverty alleviation programs and the dietary guidelines for Americans. At the time of his visit, Brandon was creating ways for low-income Americans to have access to food during the nation's response to COVID-19. During his tour of MFB, he learned about Hope Packs, MFB's weekend student feeding program.
The Forbes 22nd annual list of top 100 charities has been released for 2021. Midwest Food Bank moved up to number 39. The list is based on the amount of donations received. Brandon's unique experience and passion are a great fit for MFB, as we focus on sustainable growth.
"I am pleased to welcome someone with Brandon's passion and insight to our National Board," says Eric Hodel, CEO of Midwest Food Bank. "He brings valuable experience and insight in the arena of food and poverty."
Brandon's favorite part of MFB is the people. "In my initial conversation with founder David Keiser, it was apparent that his leadership has kept MFB focused since day one," says Brandon. "His vision and commitment are apparent throughout the staff and thousands of volunteers that help accomplish the MFB mission.
The role of a National Board member is a volunteer one. "Our neighbors in need require more than just essentials; they are in need of hope," says Brandon. "The best way to share hope is by giving of our time. I am honored to give a small amount of my time to help MFB provide industry-leading food relief to those in need while feeding them spiritually."
Brandon and Hannah currently live in Arlington, VA, with their four children ranging in age from 4 to 11. Brandon enjoys spending time with his family and serving as a benevolent fund deacon at his church.
