Midwest Food Bank is now fully operational at our new location: 2031 Warehouse Road, Normal, IL. Food had gradually been stored here as warehouse space was completed. Offices were moved on Saturday, April 15, and Monday, April 17 marked our first full day here.
The Veterans Parkway warehouse seemed huge when we moved in over 11 years ago. Over time, donations increased and the space filled up. Options for expansion were limited and MFB had to rent space at another location. With agencies on the waiting list, the effort to relocate began to ramp up in 2016. God led MFB to purchase the building that formerly housed Bloomington-Normal Seating Company.
MFB closed on the new location in November of 2016 and a massive remodeling effort began. Volunteers worked tirelessly to remove racking, construct a new cooler and freezer, remodel the entry and lobby area, and many other jobs. Final touches were being done during the week of April 17, and our Gala & Auction was held on Saturday, April 22. An open house will be held sometime soon.
We are excited to have our first distribution week here beginning Monday, May 8. As the load-out process is fine-tuned, it is our hope to add the 40 agencies on our waiting list.
MFB owes a debt of gratitude to the many donors and volunteers who labored to make this transition happen and those who will continue to work, serving those in need. Most inportantly, we thank our Lord for His guidance and provision in our efforts to relieve hunger.
