As you know, Midwest Food Bank distributes food to over 200 agencies every month. During that week, our warehouse fills with volunteers willing to share their time and energy to benefit others in need. They help us load trucks, trailers and cars with food!
When the November 17th tornado hit, MFB responded quickly supporting the need. As additional relief flooded in we started looking into the future and evaluating the support that would be needed during the upcoming winter and spring months.
Our three local divisions; Peoria, Morton and Bloomington, organized a family food box effort to be distributed in the affected areas. A gift from the Heart of Illinois United Way helped purchase an extra semi load of food for Tazewell County. MFB felt that the majority of the burden would shift to the agencies we support and our hope is to increase their food supply to meet that need.
On January 29th and 30th, MFB Peoria hosted a Tazewell County only food distribution. We were thrilled to share the blessings and help support those that have suffered because of the storm. We wish God's Blessings to all that have helped and received.
This is a first for us to have three distributions in one month; Peoria, Tazewell, and the Quad cities! God is good!
