We are so encouraged when we see young people involved in charitable work. It gives hope for the future.
Recently, a group of girls aged 7-11 brainstormed a way to help people affected by COVID-19. With their parents permission, the girls made jewelry and sell it in their Morton, Illinois, neighborhood. Their parents helped them investigate and locate a worthy non-profit organization. MFB Peoria is the charity they chose to support.
For a few days, the girls worked very hard designing and creating jewelry. Then, they set up a stand to begin selling. The parents were just hoping someone would stop and buy something to reward the girls for their effort.
When one customer left, the girls were screaming with delight. He had given them a $100 bill in exchange for a few pieces of jewelry. By the end of the day, the girls had made $162. They were so excited, they decided to have another day of sales.
By the end of the second day, they had raised over $500! Arrangements were made for Monica Scheuer, MFB Peoria's Executive Director, to come to their neighbor to receive the check in person and personally thank the girls for their effort.
Midwest Food Bank has been actively providing aid since the early days of the COVID crisis. This generous donation will bless many struggling families.
Thank you to the community for supporting the girls' hard work. And thank you, girls, for your loving hearts. Your gift not only brings us help in this pandemic, it gives us encouragement.
