Land of Promise is an organization committed to help those in need put food on the table, and has been a partner of Midwest Food Bank in the Georgia Division since 2014. The founder, Veronica Mounts, reports that they serve 1000 people each month through Nourish the Need Food Backpack Program.
LaToya, a caring parent, contacted Land of Promise via Facebook to confirm the date her children would begin receiving food. Veronica felt urged to call and hold a conversation with LaToya, rather than sending the standard reply.
LaToya told her, "I just moved from Miami with my children, and we are going through a tough time right now. I am appreciative of the schools' free breakfast and lunch; however, on weekends I never have enough food to feed my four children, and I don't want them to be hungry. When the school informed me about the Nourish the Need Food Backpack Program, I knew it was an answer to my prayers."
Veronica assured LaToya that they were already scheduled to start receiving food that Friday. More importantly, Land of Promise referred her to community resources where she could immediately begin to receive emergency food for her family.
LaToya shared, "I've never heard of a program like this, and I did not know that people cared this much about my family not having food to eat. This program helped me so much financially that I no longer worry about my children being hungry over the weekends. Ms. Veronica, along with the backpack food program and the crew, have been such a blessing to me and my family."
A month later, the program started serving the students at the middle school where her son attended, and he enrolled in the Nourish the Need Food Backpack Program. MFB is glad to partner with Land of Promise as they continue provide hunger relief to people in need.
